Professional Ethics & Complaints Procedure

am deeply committed to providing a safe, ethical, and highly professional therapeutic service. My practice is built on a foundation of integrity, respect, and a commitment to your well-being.

My Ethical Framework

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and my practice adheres strictly to their comprehensive Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. This framework sets out the standards for good practice and ensures that I:

  • Work Safely and Ethically: Prioritising your best interests and welfare.

  • Maintain Professional Boundaries: Ensuring our therapeutic relationship remains clear and supportive.

  • Uphold Confidentiality: As detailed in my Confidentiality Agreement, with clear limits.

  • Engage in Regular Supervision: To ensure the quality and effectiveness of my work.

  • Commit to Continuous Professional Development: Keeping my skills and knowledge up-to-date.

You can view the full BACP Ethical Framework on their website: https://www.bacp.co.uk/ethics/

Complaints Procedure

While I strive to provide the highest standard of care, I understand that sometimes concerns may arise. Your feedback is important, and I encourage you to raise any issues directly with me in the first instance.

1. Raising a Concern Directly with Me: If you have a concern or complaint about any aspect of our work together, I encourage you to discuss it with me directly. This can often be the most effective way to resolve issues and can even be a valuable part of the therapeutic process itself. Please feel free to bring your concerns to a session or contact me via email to arrange a separate discussion. I will listen carefully, take your concerns seriously, and work with you to find a resolution.

2. Escalating Your Complaint (BACP): If, after discussing your concerns with me, you feel that the issue has not been satisfactorily resolved, or if you do not feel able to raise the concern directly with me, you have the right to take your complaint to my professional body, the BACP.

The BACP offers a formal complaints procedure for members of the public who believe a BACP registered practitioner has breached their Ethical Framework.

To make a complaint to the BACP, please visit their website: https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-us/protecting-the-public/making-a-complaint/

The BACP will assess your complaint and determine if it falls within their remit for investigation. Their process is independent and designed to uphold professional standards.

My aim is always to provide a supportive and ethical therapeutic experience. This procedure is in place to ensure transparency and accountability, offering you a clear path if you ever need to raise a concern.
